Apartment Essentials

I just recently moved out on my own, and I know before my move in date I was doing massive amounts of research on what you need, my browsing history was full of “Your first apartment checklist” “the do’s and don’s of your apartment” – here is what you need.

For all of these items, I would recommend these stores: HomeGoods, Target, Amazon (online, duh), Wayfair (online), World Market, Urban Outfitters (cute but probably more expensive than what you might want), Society 6 (online, BEST place to get art for your apartment).

KITCHEN
Ok, first, the basics…

  1. Pots & pans (medium/large pot, small pot, large skillet, small skillet)
  2. Baking sheet
  3. Large chef knife
  4. Silicone Spatula
  5. Wooden spoon
  6. Measuring cup
  7. Measuring spoons
  8. Cooking bowl(s)
  9. Silverware set
  10. Plate set
  11. Glasses set
  12. Mugs
  13. Toaster
  14. Dish Towels

My favorite kitchen tools (not necessities but will make your life easier)

  1. Blender
  2. Lemon squeezer– if you have never used one of these, I just changed your life.
  3. Electric kettle

Common Room
Furniture (check if your apartment comes furnished. If not, I would get these:)

  1. Couch
  2. Lounge chair
  3. Side table
  4. Coffee table
  5. Dinner table
  6. Dinner table chairs
  7. Lamp

Good spots to buy college furniture: Check on FaceBook pages for other college students selling their furniture. This will be cheaper and probably closer, another option is to reach out to family members, I know a lot of mine helped me with a lot of my furniture. If that fails, look at Ikea, HomeGoods, Target.

Bedroom
Boring sh*t

  1. Mattress
  2. Bed frame- maybe not necessary but good to have if you like to do work or read in bed
  3. 2 sets of sheets
  4. Duvet/ down comforter
  5. Pillows
  6. Pillow Case
  7. Floor Lamp- not necessary, but I highly recommend, it can give you extra light & you can get lightbulbs that change color to make it more unique( Target has great affordable options)

Have fun with these:

  1. Throw Blankets
  2. Wall art– tapestries, posters, anything that will make the room unique to you
  3. Desk/ shoe/ closet/ makeup organizers (I would wait to get these- live in your space for a week or two to see what you will really need)
  4. Jewelry Organizers
  5. Bins for random stuff- I have plenty of these in my closet, its great for organizing extra makeup, nail stuff, really anything you need, and it keeps it all out of the way

Bathroom
You need these, but have fun with decorating the space:

  1. Shower liner, hooks, shower curtain
  2. Towels (hand, face and body)
  3. Bath mat
  4. Shower organizer or caddy

Probably not crucial but fun nonetheless:

  1. Toothbrush cup/ Cap- bathrooms can get gross, adding a cap to your toothbrush even if its in the cup will still keep it sanitary
  2. Bathrobe

Let me know if there is anything I’m missing & be sure to add it in the comments

xoxo
